Until this year, American foundations have always been the largest group of members of the European Foundation Centre, but they have now been overtaken by Italian foundations. At the latest count, there are 27 US members and 43 Italians, a sharp rise from the 17 Italian members last year. German foundations, with a 20-strong membership, constitute the third largest group.
