A Brazilian NGO’s initiative simultaneously to conserve the Atlantic Forest and improve the quality of life among rural workers has been recognized by the Clinton Global Initiative as a Commitment to Action. The Institute for Forest and Agricultural Management and Certification (Imaflora) is carrying out a pilot programme in Southern Bahia, Brazil, to identify a method of paying for environmental services in the sustainable production of cocoa and to encourage the demand for this product by establishing a direct link between producers and consumers.
