It is with deep regret that I announce the resignation of APPC’s Chief Executive, Rory Francisco-Tolentino, effective 1 August 2008, due to family commitments that require that she relocate to the US before the end of the year.
Rory was a very significant part of the APPC family, having been one of its four founders in 1994, and having served as Co-Chair and then as Chair of APPC before she became its Chief Executive in the second half of 2002.
She has been instrumental, in the time that she has been in the leadership position, in making APPC much more widely known in the philanthropy world, with a wide range of accomplishments that have helped make it the premiere source of information about philanthropy in Asia.
While there is a lot of work still to be done, we are confident that APPC will undertake this next leadership transition to make it a stronger and more effective organization overall. We have constituted a Board Committee to develop a road map for APPC in the future, given the changing context of philanthropy in the region.
While this planning process is under way, and as we begin our search for Rory’s successor, I am pleased to announce that two of our Board members have agreed to supervise the daily operations of the office. Mr Bobby Calingo, Executive Director of Team Energy Foundation, and our Treasurer, will oversee the financial operations, ensuring transparency and accountability, while Ms Priya Viswanath, CEO of Charities Aid Foundation India, will oversee operational matters. APPC continues to be totally committed to the hosting of WINGS in our Manila office.
Our current APPC staff, Alexie Ferreria-Mercado, Program Officer, and Jeanette Bandiola, Finance and Administration Officer, will continue to be in place in our Manila office after Rory’s departure. Please do not hesitate to contact either of them if you have any concerns about APPC matters. We will make sure your concern is addressed quickly.
I hope you will all join the APPC Board and myself in wishing Rory well.
