Whither philanthropy?
When the Monitor Institute’s report on the future of philanthropy in the US was published earlier this year, it struck me that it would be interesting to see what people in other countries would come up with if they asked themselves similar questions. Writing these articles proved a big undertaking for all who contributed – but I hope they will agree that the results justify the effort. Perhaps the strongest common thread was the insistence that philanthropy must move from addressing symptoms to addressing causes. Several writers spoke of the sector becoming more ‘transformative’.
