Big Society Capital has released new guidance on Donor Advised Funds (DAF), which offer attractive alternatives to charitable foundations: Maximising Your Philanthropy: A guide to Social Impact Investment and Donor Advised Funds.

The guide has been produced in collaboration with the DAF Advisory Council in order to help educate donors about the opportunity that exists to maximise philanthropy by using DAFs for impact investing.

‘Donor Advised Funds are growing in popularity and offer donors an attractive alternative to setting up a charitable foundation. However, many donors are missing out on the opportunity to compound the impact achieved through their DAFs by selecting impact investments. Once the initial donation has been made into the DAF, any financial returns made from impact investments within the DAF can be recycled back into other impact investments or used for grant making in the future. We hope that donors find this guide and the practical examples included helpful, as we believe huge positive social impact could be achieved if more donors use their DAFs for impact investment.’
