The best thing that the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) can do for its members is to provide opportunities for networking with other members and prospective members – on a regional level as well as a national level. As one member put it, ‘to provide a global view, but local service’.

A whopping 76.3 per cent of respondents cited this as AVPN’s greatest potential value in a recent member survey. Similarly, over 50 per cent felt that next year’s annual conference, scheduled for May, and the soon-to-be launched case studies database (Investment Showcase) would be important contributions to developing venture philanthropy in Asia.

In an initiative that also speaks to this need, AVPN is organizing a series of roadshows throughout Asia during October when Ruth Jones and Shaks Ghosh will deliver presentations on ‘Venture Philanthropy in Practice’. Ruth is CEO of Social Venture Partners International and Shaks Ghosh is CEO of the UK venture philanthropy fund Private Equity Foundation, whose focus is on young people who are not in employment, education or training.

The roadshows will take place in Mumbai (15 October), Singapore (17 October), Hong Kong (19 October) and Tokyo (22 October).
