MacKenzie Scott is making her giving transparent through a newly launched website that details the gifts and grantees that have benefitted from her philanthropy. Yield Giving, a new sortable database, shows that Scott has given away more than $14 billion in funding to about 1,600 nonprofits since 2019.
Scott was previously making the details of her giving known in Medium posts, but would sometimes omit the details of grantees or not post at all following a round of giving. Her new website will now keep up to date on her philanthropy.
The launch of Yield Giving also comes with another development for Scott’s philanthropy: prospective grantees can now submit information for evaluation in an ‘open call process’.
‘Information from other people – other givers, my team, the non-profit teams I’ve been giving to – has been enormously helpful to me,’ Scott wrote. ‘If more information about these gifts can be helpful to anyone, I want to share it.’
Scott, a signatory of the Giving Pledge, has been giving her fortune away at a pace not often seen in philanthropy. Forbes currently estimates her net worth at $27 billion.
The largest donation to a single programme disclosed on Yield Giving was $60 million to GiveDirectly’s Project 100+, which provided $1,000 Covid relief payments to 200,000 low-income households overall.
