As part of a month-long set of festivities celebrating mothers, Citibank Nicaragua launched in June a programme that offers clients the opportunity to donate to NGOs working with women and children. Help Us Help Others is an initiative of the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Citibank Nicaragua. The four designated beneficiary organizations are Pro Mujer, Aldeas Infantiles SOS, AMA and CONANCA. As part of the programme, customers with a Citibank credit card will have the option to support one or more of these organizations through small recurring, automatic donations made for free through the Citibank website. In addition, all Citibank clients will have the opportunity to give a small amount each month to these organizations. According to the General Director of Pro Mujer in Nicaragua, Gloria Ruiz, the monthly donations will translate into loans of around US$338 to help women develop their small businesses. ‘These women will also receive health services to prevent five potentially life-threatening illnesses that are prevalent in Nicaragua,’ says Ruiz, ‘breast and cervical cancers, diabetes, hypertension and obesity.’
