This month’s Alliance Breakfast Club, kindly hosted by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), discusses the relationship between philanthropy and the media; how can they co-exist together and why do they need each other?
The worlds of media and philanthropy are colliding. Both sides have their work cut out to promote journalism in the public interest, build new models and restore trust in an age of dis-information, fake news and creeping authoritarianism. The wellbeing of global civil society might depend on their success.
Charles Keidan (Editor of Alliance magazine) was joined by Miguel Castro (Senior officer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and guest editor of this December issue), Belinda Goldsmith (Editor-in-Chief of Thomson Reuters Foundation), and Nienke Venema (Director of the Democracy and Media Foundation).
