Temasek Foundation is bringing together 20 Asian youth climate changemakers as part of a programme designed to equip young people with skills and resources needed to take climate action.

The Singapore-based foundation, alongside Tsao Pao Chee, a member of the Philanthropy Asia Alliance membership group – has organised an Asian Youth Leaders initiative as part of the Earthshot Prize it co-founded.

The Earthshot Prize is a global environmental award that is rewarded to five winners each year for their contributions towards environmentalism. It was first awarded in 2021 and is planned to be awarded annually until 2030.

Each winner receives a grant of approximately £1 million to continue their environmental work.

‘Asia sits at the heart of the climate challenge, and the Temasek Trust ecosystem is committed to backing bold innovators, changemakers, and transformative solutions that drive impact in Asia for the benefit of the world,’ said Jennifer Lewis, Temasek Trust’s head of advocacy and partnerships.

Philanthropy’s growing role in addressing climate concerns across the Asian continent has ramped up.

Off shore renewable energy, clean water systems and sustainable shipping in India, are to get USD $500 million of private investment.

In September, AVPN – a network that brings together philanthropic and impact investors from across Asia and beyond – announced funding for eighteen organisations as part of a $5 million climate solutions initiative.

Funded by the APAC Sustainability Seed Fund 2.0, supported by tech giant Google and the Asian Development Bank, grantees hailing from the Asia Pacific region in countries such as Japan, South Korea and Singapore will aim to address renewable energy solutions, decarbonisation, climate adaptation and water perseveration.
