Beyond borders, local challenges and office issues, 650 social investors from 36 countries took time to attend the third edition of the Latimpacto Conference ‘Impact Minds: Beyond Frontiers’ held in Oaxaca, Mexico.

From the 9th to the 12th of September 2024, the Latimpacto team provided a necessary environment to discuss how best to address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) in the region. The atmosphere of openness, closeness and trust that they provided through 50 learning spaces was excellent for deepening discussions on the role of corporations and high-net-worth families in achieving greater impact, systemic change, climate action, education, innovative finance, blended finance, the value of philanthropy in taking more risks and diversifying portfolios, among other topics on the social and environmental agenda.

The relevance of the topics, combined with the quality and experience of the 110 speakers, created key moments of learning, reflection, inspiration and exchange of ideas.

Empathy and co-responsibility

The event stood out for going beyond learning and connecting between speakers, participants and allies.

They carried out eleven learning visits in collaboration with the Oaxaca Community Foundation and the Secretariat of Economic Development of Oaxaca. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the territory, empathise with the communities, and listen to their growth process and the impact they are achieving.

In addition, Latimpacto announced three funds in partnership with important impact investors to positively influence environmental, cultural and educational initiatives.

The experience

It was a good time for a brief break from the ‘day-to-day’, to connect with colleagues from another perspective, to meet new allies who inspire us, to transform the ‘discomfort’ of certain topics into new ideas, to open new paths so that these ideas become a reality, to strengthen the sector, and above all to do what is necessary so that impact investment positively transforms the region, beyond frontiers.
