Indian Philanthropy Forum – Second conference to take place as philanthropy moves up agenda

The last year has witnessed a step change in philanthropy in India with a number of high-profile Indian philanthropists announcing substantial commitments, including Azim Premji, Mrs Birla, Shiv Nadar and G M Rao. There is a real sense that philanthropy is moving up the agenda.

On 29 June, Mumbai will see many Indian and international philanthropists coming together for the second annual Indian Philanthropy Forum (IPF) conference. Around 150 delegates will spend a day exploring different avenues for strategic giving. A number of leading philanthropists will share their experiences and stories, while sector experts and social entrepreneurs will lead panel discussions on topics as diverse as women’s empowerment, the health of children in urban slums, and the big three: TB, malaria and HIV/AIDS. Bain and Company will share findings from their latest report on the state of philanthropy in India; leading impact consultants FSG will be speaking on catalytic philanthropy; and the Acumen Fund will host a panel discussion on impact investing.

In November 2010, as reported in the December issue of Alliance, IPF launched its first giving circle. It is currently developing a second giving circle focusing on child malnutrition, which will be launched later in the summer.
