The Instituto para o Desenvolvimento do Investimento Social (Institute for the Development of Social Investment – IDIS) of Brazil is looking into the practice of venture philanthropy, an approach whereby social organizations are supported by adapting corporate strategies for the social sector, such as the implementation of risk capital and long-term investments. The approach includes technical, strategic and managerial support. In Brazil, the idea of venture philanthropy is relatively new.

The IDIS study highlighted the case of the Fondo Nido (Nest Fund) and the Non-Profit Enterprise Self-Sustainability Team (NESsT), which provides funding and training for social entrepreneurship. This experience has been applied in seven Latin American countries. The goal is to help organizations reduce their dependence on donations.
